 Highlights of the Trek


Massive Kanchanjunga (8598m) lies on the border on Nepal and Sikkim. It is a rich area of Nepal for Musk Deer, Blue Sheep and possibly YETI, the abominable snowman. It is inhabited by little scattered population and is a real Wilderness terrain of Nepal.

  Program Itinerary

Days 01 : Arrival and transfer to Hotel

Days 02 : Preparation for trekking.

Days 03 : Kathmandu to Basantapur: Take 45-minute flight to Biratnagar and take a bus ride to Basantapur via Dharan and Dhankuta. Overnight at Camp (1790 m).

Days 04 : Basantapur to Chawki: After breakfast trail goes gradually a bit up and down through beautiful villages and rhododendron forests.

Days 05 : Chowki to Gupha Pokhari: On this day the trail heads upward to a mountain ridge to Ram Pokhari then continues to further passing rhododendron forest and Chow Village, afterwards reaches to Gupha Pokhari (2940 m.) for rest overnight.

Days 06 : Gupha Pokhari to Nesum: The trail skirts around the ridge and enters into the mountain range, then crosses the pass at 2980m, then descends to Nesum (1591 m.) via Gurja Gaun for rest overnight.

Days 07 : Nesum to Taplejung: The trek descends again to Dovan through the paddy fields and ascends again to Taplejung (1772 m.) for rest.

Days 08 : Taplejung to Chiruwa: It continues up to the Tamor River, sometimes steeply above the river and sometimes by the river banks then reaches to Chirurwa Bazaar (1171 m.) for rest.

Days 09 : Chiruwa to Sakathum: The trail continues up the Tamor
River passing Thapathok then climbs over a spur and descends to cross Simbuwa Khola a river formed by the Yalung Glacier on the south side of Kanchanjunga whichreaches the headwaters of this river on the 20th day. Then it climbs over the ridge to join the steep and narrow Ghunsa Khola valley and reaches to Sakathum (1626 m) forest.

Days 10 : Sakathum to Amjilassa: Today the trail becomes very steep and passes the hamlets of Zonging and Ghaiya Bari an difficult climb with several outcroppings. Wonderful views of Ghunsa Khola flowing below can be seen from the high sports then, it ends at Amjilassa for rest overnight.

Days 11 : Amjilassa to Kyapra village: It continues along a gentle path towards Ghunsa Khola and descends to the riverbed ,then reaches to Kyapra Village (2730 m) for rest after a steep climb of about 300 meters.

Days 12 : Kyapra Village to Ghunsa Village: The trek descends and makes an easy climb up to the bank of Ghunsa Khola then the trek leaves the river and climbs a short hill to a broad meadow. After Phere village the trek inters to rhododendron forest and climbs a gentle hill before descending again to Ghunsa Khola then reaches to Ghunsa village for a night halt.

Days 13 : Rest day at Ghunsa. Explore Ghunsa Village.

Days 14 : Ghunsa village to Khambachen: The trek descends to the riverbed and enters into a forest area from where the Jannu Glacier can be seen ahead. It climbs again steeply over a hill, then finally gets the view of Mt. Jannu Himal (7594 m.) or then Mystery Peak of the Terror. It descends again to Khambachen (4069m) for night camp.

Days 15 : Khambachen to Lhonak: The trek goes ahead to the edge of Kanchanjunga Glacier and crosses the lateral moraine, then it crosses the lateral moraine, then it comes to the junction of Lhonak Glacier and the valley. After crossing the junction the trek ends for the day at Lhonak(7409m) and rest overnight

Days 16 : Lhonak to Pangpema: It is day trip to Pangpema. The views of Tent Peak (7257 m), Nepal peak (7060 m) Cross peak (6412 m.) Twins (7238m) and Kanchanjunga are the rewarding views before reaching to Pangpema.

Days 17 : Rest at Pangpema: Explore Pangpema village

Days 18 : Pangpema to Khambachen: It is a trail to same way to return.

Days 19 : Khambachen to Ghunsa: Same way to return.

Days 20 : Ghunsa to Sele –le: A steep ascent to Sele- le takes about 5 hours. We will take our lunch in water available place. After lunch it takes about 2 hours to reach our camp site at Sele-le.

Days 21 : Sele-le to Tseram: After breakfast we ascend about 2 and half hours on a hill from where we can see the beautiful mountain view of Jannu Himal. After lunch the trail descend to Tseram. Today we walk about 6 hours.

Days 22 : Tseram to Ramche: The trail is gentle ascent to Ramche takes about four hours. We will have our lunch and camp here.

Days 23 : Ramche: Explore South Kanchenjunga Base camp and glacier.

Days 24 : Ramche to Andhaphedi: We will be descending through rhododendron forests all the way. It takes about 6 hours. There is only tea shops in Andhaphedi.

Days 25 : Andhahedi to Amjikhola: First half an hour to descent and trail ascends till our lunch place. After lunch we walk 2-3 hours to reach our camp site at Amjikhola.

Days 26 : Amjikhola to Yamphudin: Today we will have our lunch and camp at Yamphudin. We will camp at river side. Take shower and have rest or explore Yamphudin Village.

Days 27 : Yamphudin to Ponphe (1652 m): The trek descends to Kabell Khola then ascends again to Mamankaa Limbu village. Then a steep climb to Ponphe for rest overnight.

Days 28 : Ponphe to Karebhanjyang: The trek climbs to the ridge and ascends again through a series of side valley then starts to descend and reaches to Karebhanjyang for night stop.

Days 29 : Karebhanjyang to Lalikharka: We ascend three hours and descend three our to reach our camp site Lalikharka.

Days 30 : Lalikharka to Suketar: A steep ascent about two hours and one and half hour straight trail to Suketar. Wait for next day flight to Biratnagar and Kathmandu.

Days 31 : Fly to Suketar to Biratnagar and over night at hotel.

Days 32 : Fly to Kathmandu and free day at Kathmandu.

Days 33 : Departure transfer to the airport for onward destination.

  Cost Included :-

Hotel accommodation in Kathmandu (as per itinerary, 3 star rating standard, B&B, twin share basis), airport transfers, full compliment of trekking crew, all meals while on trek (except alternative by choice), all necessary camping gear (including sleeping bag, down jacket), overland transportation, National Park Fees, trekking crew insurance, emergency first aid kit.

  Additional Cost :-

Extra hotel expenses, single room supplement where requested, any personal expenses (bottled soft drinks, telephone charges, video/camera fees, etc.), domestic and international airfares, medical costs (except medical attention given by trek leader), rescue charges, tips for crew, Visas and visa extension costs, lunch and evening meals while in Kathmandu (except Namaste meal on first night).
